| Don Seelinger, MD |
After serving an unprecedented seven consecutive years as the president of the board of directors of the New Mexico Medical Review Association (NMMRA), Don Seelinger, MD, stepped down at the Aug. 14, 2009, meeting of the NMMRA board to pave the way for new leadership on the executive committee. Dr. Seelinger, a neurologist, was first elected in 2002 and was re-elected every two years thereafter. No previous board member had served more than two years in succession. Elected to fill the vacancy created by Dr. Seelinger’s resignation was board vice president, Stephen Haynes, MD, MPH, of Clovis. Dr. Haynes is a past president of the board, having last served in that capacity in the mid-1990s. The board then elected John Lundy, MD, of Deming, to fill the vice president vacancy. Dr. Seelinger will continue for the next year on the executive committee as immediate past president. The other officer of the board, secretary-treasurer, is Annie Jung, MEd, associate executive director of the New Mexico Medical Society.
Dr. Seelinger was honored with both a plaque commemorating his years of service and accolades from the board and staff. In bestowing the plaque, Dr. Haynes expressed the gratitude of the entire board and the challenge of following in Dr. Seelinger’s footsteps. NMMRA chief executive officer, Dan Jaco, said that Dr. Seelinger’s long tenure was characterized by professionalism and fairness, a firm commitment to organizational integrity and graciousness with all with whom he came into contact.
