Click here to take NMIVC Member and Stakeholder Survey! The New Mexico Influenza Vaccine Consortium was formed in 2000, as a result of a delay in flu vaccine distribution that year. The group consists of representatives from hospitals, health plans, nursing homes, and provider groups in the state, as well as the New Mexico Medical Review Association (NMMRA) and the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH). The purpose of the consortium is to provide a mechanism for sharing and distributing vaccine throughout the state as needed, and to promote adult immunizations, particularly against influenza and pneumococcal disease. The guiding principles of the consortium are:
Through monthly meetings at the New Mexico Medical Review Association offices, electronic updates, and the continual population of a statewide vaccine-tracking database, the consortium provides a communication vehicle for the effective management of vaccine supply and distribution across health care settings in New Mexico. This partnership and adherence to the guiding principles allow the consortium to put forth a common message about influenza and vaccinations to both health care providers and the public. State Tracks Vaccine Inventory through NMIVC To be prepared in the event of a flu vaccine shortage such as those experienced in previous years, the State of New Mexico maintains an updated inventory of doses of influenza vaccine and their distribution within the state. In collaboration with the New Mexico Influenza Vaccine Consortium, the New Mexico Department of Health is again using the tracking system on this Web site. The health department asks that all providers, clinics, and health care systems populate this database with their influenza vaccine ordering, receipts, distribution and administration information. Click here to view the written request from New Mexico Health Secretary Alfredo Vigil, MD, along with instructions on how to enter and update vaccine information. The New Mexico Influenza Vaccine Consortium is facilitated by the New Mexico Medical Review Association with funding provided by the New Mexico Department of Health. New! The New Mexico Board of Medicine exempts the requirement of physician orders for vaccines in immunization programs, paving the way for use of standing orders.
