Improving Nursing Home Quality of Care
Nursing homes are among the health care providers targeted to work with NMMRA on National Patient Safety Initiative (NPSI) projects as part of NMMRA’s New Mexico Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). NPSI is sponsored by CMS and is designed to help providers ensure that people with Medicare receive safe, high quality health care by addressing specific areas of potential patient harm.

In addition to working on these topics with a select group of nursing homes in New Mexico, NMMRA provides quality improvement resources to all nursing homes and works with stakeholders and professional organizations interested in patient safety to achieve these and other goals of the NPSI projects.
NMMRA also provides technical assistance for a select number of nursing homes to correct deficiencies that have been identified by the state’s long-term care survey agency and will conduct a statewide study of nursing home disparities.
