Nursing Home Quality Measures

NMMRA partners with New Mexico's nursing homes to improve the publicly reported quality measures posted on Nursing Home Compare. Measures related to reducing the use of physical restraints and management of pressure ulcers are part of the National Patient Safety Initiative (NPSI). NPSI projects are part of NMMRA’s New Mexico Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

What Are Quality Measures?

The nursing home quality measures come from resident assessment data that nursing homes routinely collect on all residents at specified intervals during a resident's stay (referred to as the Minimum Data Set). This assessment data is converted into quality measures that provide data to nursing homes to help them with their quality improvement efforts. Quality measure data also serves as another source of information for consumers to see how well nursing homes are caring for their residents' physical and clinical needs.
