The New Mexico Medical Review Association (NMMRA), the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for New Mexico, is under contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to:

  • Improve safety in the delivery of prescription drugs
  • Further the use of e-prescribing with comprehensive decision support tools
  • Collect and analyze Medicare Part D and other public and private administrative data
  • Assist in implementation of clinical registries and practical clinical trials
The Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003 provides seniors and individuals with disabilities with a prescription drug benefit, more choices, and better benefits under Medicare. As authorized by this landmark legislation, NMMRA is actively working to further activities surrounding prescription improvement in New Mexico by:
  • Recruiting physicians to implement e-prescribing
  • Providing provider-specific drug utilization and medication management reports
  • Working with dispensing pharmacies on medication therapy management
  • Creating and implementing pharmacy policies, procedures and quality checks statewide
  • Collaborating with MA-PDPs and PDPs to implement quality improvement projects
