The person-directed care model is a philosophy of care that puts the needs, interests, and lifestyle choices of individuals at the center of care processes. It enables individuals to exercise control and autonomy over their lives to the fullest extent possible. The goal of adopting a person-directed care model is to focus on every person's unique needs, strengths and relationships. These tools and resources can be used to assist nursing homes move from an institutional model of care, which is generally focused on tasks, schedules and care systems, to a person-directed care model.

New Mexico Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Collaborative Resources
The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (UNMHSC) recently partnered with rural and urban acute care and long-term care facilities in the state to implement a collaborative aimed at reducing health care-associated bacteremias caused by MRSA. It was funded through a Patient Safety Grant awarded to UNMHSC from the Cardinal Health Foundation. NMMRA was been contracted to carry out the administrative functions of the collaborative, organize and facilitate workshops, provide educational materials, arrange site visits, and collect data.

NMMRA National Patient Safety Initiative Project Summaries
NMMRA is dedicated to helping hospitals and nursing homes provide the highest quality of patient care possible. These summaries highlight NMMRA's work conducted as part of its Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) contract begun in August 2008 as part of the National Patient Safety Initiative project.

Potentially Inappropriate Medications Recommendation
The New Mexico Prescription Improvement Coalition's (NMPIC's) Potentially Inappropriate Medications Advisory Board has issued a statewide clinical recommendation, "Medications to be Used with Caution in the Elderly."
